Shoebill
The Shoebill looks like it’s from a different age. But just like its dinosaur ancestors, extinction is around the corner.

In the wetlands of Uganda, two chicks are fighting for survival.

One of them is three days older.
This headstart means it always wins the fight for attention and food.

To increase its survival chances, the older chick attacks its younger sibling.
And the mother? Leaves the weaker chick to die...
Life is ruthless... In all of Uganda there are only 14 shoebills left.
As Uganda’s population is growing, more and more of the Shoebill's wetlands are turned into cities and fields.

This problem is not unique to Uganda…
The world population is expected to grow to 9,6 billion by 2050.
